Lenten Quiet Day:  For Those Who Wish

To Learn Centering Prayer

Centering Prayer – An Opportunity for Spiritual Enrichment at St. Andrew’s Church

At the heart of the Christian heritage is the practice of silent communion with God.  In today’s busy lifestyle, we hunger for regular periods of peace and silence in the “inner room” with God to strengthen our relationships with him.  But as we get caught up in the daily noise of our self-centered lives, we seldom take the time to be silent and feel God’s presence within us.

Centering Prayer is a simple but very enriching method of opening our hearts to a direct experience with God through silent communion.

While centering prayer is done privately most of the time, a weekly sharing of the experience in a small group has proven to be very supportive and spiritually enriching.  These weekly meetings last for about an hour, including 20 minutes of silent centering prayer, followed by a period of sharing.

A Workshop to introduce you to Centering Prayer

On Saturday, February 24, from 9 am to 3:00 pm, we will offer an INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP on the method and practice of Centering Prayer.  Topics covered are:

·                     Prayer as a relationship with God. Centering Prayer and the Christian Contemplative Heritage.

·                     The method of Centering Prayer taught and practiced.

·                     The use of the Sacred Word in Centering Prayer explained.

·                     The fruits of Centering Prayer and extending the benefits into daily life.

After the Saturday workshop, there will be 6 weekly sessions available for those who desire to deepen what they have learned. All sessions will be held at St. Andrew’s.  After the introductory sessions are complete, those interested in continuing the Centering Prayer practice will continue meeting weekly at a time or times to be agreed upon later.

The focus of these sessions will be to teach the method of Centering Prayer as a primary way to enrich your personal relationship with God through the living Christ, and to bring us together as a support group in the sharing of this practice.

Fee:  There will be a $20 fee to cover the workshop.  Materials will be provided.

Coffee will be available throughout the day and a light lunch will be provided.
